During my residency, I want to make a site-specific installation that will continue to evolve. The wonderful things that make Minamioguni charming, like cedar, soba, and hot springs, inspire my imagination.

I will prepare audio and materials beforehand in Europe. During the residency, I will create a site-specific audio installation after I collect various items and combine them with the items I will bring. Using these items, I will also try out illustrations and site-specific installations after I return home.

My project is difficult to draw so I won’t (it will be a wearable piece), but it will probably be similar to Chiron from Greek mythology or Sans Titre.

I plan on making a cubic piece that expresses balance and uniformity. This piece will express the unity and the whole by consisting of a simple, basic structure.

I want to talk with the locals and have them write down something that makes them happy, then have them bring something related to that thing. I will then make art and write a story in English, and put this on display for everyone to see. I will make an art installation like a Milky Way in Ubuyama and open it up for viewing.

Artist in Aso 2014 Work Overview

Nana’s plan was to create a “souvenir from Aso,” and her work continued on this theme. She had studied in Japan before, and her understanding and familiarity with Japanese culture played a large part in her work.

 Pawel’s work is focused on the research and process involved in design. He finds solutions to the most fundamental human behavior patterns to create his work.

Maxime’s creations involve copies and modifications of existing items. Most of his work is in sculpture, but he is most actively searching for an item’s fundamental idea. We he recreates something, he doesn’t simply make a copy, but instead makes something based on the idea of that item.
